Credit Card Offers in the 21st Century

There’s a very good saying which says ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, but still many of us make our financial lives unnecessarily stressful by buying into the latest credit card offers, only to find out later that we’d become trapped by the small print!

In order to get decent credit we need a decent credit score and that is something that needs working on and is not simply given out on request. There's no easier way to begin building credit history than by taking advantage of the many credit card offers around today.

So, the sooner you start building your credit history the better. Credit history is not determined by how much money you earn, but by how much money you borrow. A good friend of mine had a very high paying job and apart from his house, purchased nothing on credit. He was from the older type of thinking that says if you can't afford it you should be buying it. Any credit card offers that came through his letter box were binned immediately.

Years later, when the kids had all grown up and the house was paid for, he applied for a substantial loan in order to purchase a luxury yacht, but as he had such a poor credit history, he was declined by the points system despite his level of financial comfort. Now, if he had gone through life taking advantage of the numerous credit card offers and bank loans, then he wouldn't have had any problems with getting this finance authorized. It's quite ironic that his cleaning lady has a better chance of securing a loan than her wealthy employer.

The good news is that you can use credit cards to shop for everyday items, and providing you pay them off within a certain time frame, there is no interest charged. Basically, you're borrowing money for nothing while at the same time building up a credit history. The other great thing about all the competition with credit cards offers around is that you can chop and change between offers to suite your needs, but be sure to read the agreement (usually in small print) as some may have binding contracts of sorts.

It's never too early to start building a credit history and today there are many student credit card offers available too, and although they come with some restrictions, it's a fantastic opportunity for the young learners to begin building their own personal credit history. Many of these types also offer low or no interest credit cards for a specified time period.

It's important to note that not all credit card offers are the same, so study them carefully, read the small print, and make an informed decision. You might want to choose a credit card that offers cash rewards for spending if you have the choice between two cards with similar fee structures. Some folks may prefer a card that offers the low interest over a long period compared to the no interest over a short which later shoots through the roof after the promotion period id over. It all depends on how and when you use your particular card(s)

Most people look at the many credit card offers which come through the post, but they are certainly not your only options. Check online for the latest deals and you will surely get a more in depth overview of the best deals around.

Just to finish on, a word about 0% introductory rate on balance transfers. This needs to be checked carefully because if you apply for a credit card that offers this but the balance transfer limit that is less than the amount of money you need to transfer, it may not be in your best interest to take advantage of that particular card.

Using credit cards wisely can be a great way to manage your finances in the 21st century. Not only do you have the convenience of instant cash at your disposal, but each and every time you use your card it's another brownie point to your credit history, and in today's world it your credit history that can influence your quality of life.
